Well one did pay attention - this is his reply (notice no mention of my dad except that he will make sure he's in NamUS, when I stated that I already have!)
"Yes ma'am, quite honestly I just recently became aware and have began using it. I wil make sure your father gets entered into it. Thank you for contacting me, if you have any questions, please feel free to contact me anytime."

Honor Guard - SWAT
Citrus County Sheriff's Office
Well the purpose here was to promote NamUS and make sure LE knew of it - I did that - and I'm happy to know they are aware
Comment by Jan Smolinski on July 21, 2011 at 6:06am I called a local police department the other day to check on the latest status of a missing 21 year old who went missing. The detective I spoke with in a local PD never heard of NamUs I referred her to the link and briefly explained how it worked. This is not the first time a detective did not know of the database it happens more times than not. Please get the word out educate.
Missing person families go through hell every single day NamUs at least gives the families a better hope of bringing their loved one home. Every day that goes by is a day wasted....can we all join hands become the village...knowledge is power!!

Comment by Becky Castillo on January 1, 2011 at 7:55pm This is a great idea... I especially like the links to the LE agencies nationwide.
We must all be careful how we approach our local law enforcement agents. This is an awareness campaign...
Most agencies have not heard of NamUs, but they may also be reluctant to change if they don't understand it... Provide the link to the LE Training Modules and let them learn how the database works.
It may also be a good idea to provide the contact information for the Regional Administrator in their region. The law enforcement agency can go directly to their administrator for assistance.
Good luck to all of you that have decided to be a part of this campaign!
