Mom: Somer 'assumed they wouldn't hurt her'
The mother of Somer Thompson said Thursday that the slain 7-year-old "trusted everyone and assumed they wouldn't hurt her." Diena Thompson also said that while Somer's killer is still on the loose, "I just try to keep staying strong for my family."

While having coffee this morning I was listening to this interview with Diena Thompson and if you listen to the broadcast you will hear something very disturbing. She has been getting hate mail from from certian people who are saying that Somers abduction was here fault beacause her children had to walk to and from school.

In her situation if you live 2 miles from the school there was no bus transportation, Dieana lived .09 miles from the school. There are many families that don't have the ways and means to pick up there children .

When I went to school which was many moons ago I lived about a half a mile from the school and was picked by a bus, It was a safer time, then it is today. I did a little research on the subject and found out that there are many states that follow the same guidlines and some distances are even more than 2 miles. We can't stop all the bad that happens in the world but we can try preventing it .... Another bill that should be passed is on busing children especially elementary school.

As far as the hate mail there is a time and a place for everything, I would never try to stop freedom of speech, but the family is already going through enough how about a little compassion......GROW UP.

That poor family, so much for surrounding your community with support and love.

It's so easy to overly criticize others, my daughter used to do this when she was six, but when she turned 7 thankfully she grew out of it.

There are many cruel people in this world. It is just awful that anyone would do something like that to a grieving family member.

It's a very unhappy and unstable type of person who could do this in my opinion. What could possibly be acomplished through this! It's just very sad that those letters weren't filled with compassion and support.

Good post Larry, thanks for sharing it.

Many of us have had horrible words said to us on crime (hate) boards or via email. I'm convinced these monsters that do this don't stop to think that these are real people who receive their communications. They treat us like we are soap opera characters that they can interact with...we aren't real to them.

That Mom surely did not need to hear those words. Good Lord most of us beat up on ourselves enough without strangers throwing their worthless opinions in. Luckily the good people we've met are far greater in numbers than the bad. I think what I've found so amazing with Peace4 is that it has attracted the "good!"

I am so in favor of a bill that would require all students from elementary through high school to be bussed. The first time I lived in Vegas was in the 80's and their rule was 2 miles as the crow flys. At that time there was not even a paved street that lead from our neighborhood to the school. I wrote a letter to the Editor of both newspapers and condemned that rule. So for the first time in Clark County School District history was a bus route added after the schedules had already been set. Then I was elected as the president of the Parent Teacher Association and the activism continued. I think we also became the first parent group to ever stop a casino project from going forward. We didn't have anything against casinos but they wanted to build it close to the elementary school and we said hell no! Change can only be made when people come together and speak up.

Okay, so leave it to me to run a PTO that was not all about bake sales and t-shirt sales! What can I say?...we had bigger fish to fry!

There are people in this world, both teens and adults, whose very existence is based upon blending in to a society that they are in fact, or fantasy alienated from.
By circumstance, or choice, they have, are and will continue to survive.
And part of their survival is preying upon women and children.
It will come as a surprise to many, when they eventually catch up to this individual.
Quiet, polite, a real see thru, no one really pays attention to.

There will always be people who are ignorant! It is very disturbing though when they act this way to a grieving family. They must know how those words would hurt. Her mother did nothing wrong by letting her walk to school.I am sure she remembers the time when she walked to school herself but times have changed and the poor children must be taught on what to look for and to be on gaurd.Hopefully This will be a wake up call to all parents and children. We can't be with our children 24/7 but we can teach them to be vilgalent.God Bless the family and may GOD ease their grief. Love always.....john

Some people have no heart at all. There is really nothing more to say. But, they should keep in mind that the one who did something wrong was the one who hurt and killed this little girl. Noone else.
