             I'm stunned and I still am in shock that my volunteer application for an organization was declined because they have stated that I have MANY "red flags" in my background check!

This has happened before when I have applied for volunteer positions and they have not disclosed the results of my background checks to me. It appears there is false information that means my SS# is being used and my information is being stolen. I'm sickened and heartbroken over this! I'm aware that I need to get a good lawyer to help me fix these inaccurate black marks on my recod, but I can't afford a lawyer. I know my own character as do my family and friends but as long as this stuff remains on my record, nothing I say will matter. I want to clear my name and my recod. How do I do this if I lack the money for an attorney?

Oh Lisa I'm so sorry you are going through that.  There might be information that you can Google on steps to take when your identity is stolen.  Burl Barer, who is a member on here, went through it.  Maybe you can contact him and he might be able to give you some helpful steps to take.

You can try and find a pro bono attorney but they are hard to find in these down economic times.  

 

Make a police report.  I'm sure that is the first step.  But it will be up to you to do the work to fix this.
