Permalink Reply by Jennifer Harnett on February 27, 2011 at 8:28am I know that the bar that my son went missing from did have security cameras in the parking lot. However they did not work and there were no cameras facing the exit or the parking area directly outside the bar. When we asked the question about security cameras we were told that they were not required to have them let alone fix them.
The bar that my son went missing from we have since found out that they have some under the table illegal activity going on and some rough, seedy clientel, and I am sure that this is not the bar that has this type of reputation. So I am not sure how willing bars are going to ethically do the right thing their own.
When we went to question the bar tender and owner they were first acted as if they did not even know if was there (and this is very small place) until we told we had proof from the bank. So I agree this is something that should be done but I do not think they will do it on there own.

That bar is at the Great Mall....did you talk to the Mall or check into what the Mall's responsibility would be to keeping people safe on their property?

Permalink Reply by Maureen Reintjes-Peace4 Admin on February 27, 2011 at 1:43pm Good advice but a mall and a bar even if it is not dictated by law to have cameras and security what place doesn't have those things in place simply to protect them from liability? This is a huge mall where the bar was located in one of the wealthiest counties in the nation, Johnson County, KS ..... the people of my community would expect those things to be in place. When Kelsey was abducted from the Target in this same county but across from another mall, Target had the video in no time on what happened to Kelsey. Apparently Target has one hell of a crime lab of their own!
Jennifer who owns that bar...do you know? Maybe I need to throw some weight in on this one and see if they will cough up answers for me.

Permalink Reply by Kool Breeze on February 27, 2011 at 2:11pm Maybe if we could start a list of places that don't have cameras & security for their customers as a warning?? Yes that would be a big list but it might force business owners to take responsibility for their customers.
Frankly if they have them should HAVE to be working because it is a false security..
Peopl need to buddy up these days sadly this is what it has come to and I am afraid it is only going to get worse because LE are just too quick to write people, off they are actually making people more of a target because perps know what the odd are they will do just that.. we have an epedemic and only a handful are even paying attention to this problem.
