Voice Platform and Support Network for Families of Missing and Victims of Crime
I want to see if there are any bands out there who want to be part of the Squeaky Wheel Tour 2011 (http://www.411gina.org/squeakywheeltour.htm) - which runs from October 17 to November 4, and is including Canada for the 1st time this year. The SWT being held simultaneously around the world – but it originally started in the USA to bring more awareness to missing person's cases.
All we need are bands who are already booked, or will be playing at a venue during the tour dates who are willing to put up posters of any missing person(s) in the area they are playing. We will make up posters that can be printed and handed out. Please see the document I have attached for more information.
It was started several years ago by Jannel Rap (http://www.jannelrap.com/), a musician who has a missing loved one. Her sister, Gina Bos, went missing on October 17, 2000 – almost 11 years ago – in Lincoln, Nebraska after finishing a gig at a local pub. No one knows what happened to her. She left the building and has not been seen since. In the morning, her car was still parked in the same place and her guitar was in the trunk, which was left open.
After not getting much help from the media in bringing attention to the public about Gina's case, her family decided that they had to do it, because if they didn't, no one would.
Unfortunately, this is the case with most missing people. We hear about some in the news – over and over and over again, but there are SO MANY other that never get the attention they deserve. I don't know why, though some people say (obviously) that the finances and social status of the family play some part in it – and everyone always points out that the ones in the news a lot are 'beautiful' . . . and that really bugs the heck out of me.
SOCIAL STATUS; MONEY; LOOKS!! Can you believe that even plays part with missing folks . . . not just in Hollywood and on MTV???
So, GINA for Missing Persons (http://www.411gina.org/) started – and so did the Squeaky Wheel Tour!
The reason I am involved in the tour is not because I have any musical talent or connections – it is because, sadly, my daughter, Jessie Foster (http://www.jessiefoster.ca/) is one of the missing. She has been missing for over 5 years. Jessie is an international endangered missing woman and the victim of the horrific crime of human trafficking. When Jessie was in grade 11 in Calgary, AB, she met someone who over the years 'groomed' her – and when she was 20 years old and back here in Kamloops, BC, he lured her to the USA. He did it like you would see in the movies – he took her on a 'trip' to Ft. Lauderdale & The Keys. FL . . . then another 'trip' to Manhattan, NY and Atlantic City, NJ, but instead of bringing her home after, she was taken to Las Vegas, NV. It was 14 days – exactly 2 weeks – before her 21st birthday, meaning she would then be of legal age there.
Oh, and just so you know . . . Ft. Lauderdale, Manhattan, Atlantic City and Las Vegas are 4 of the main hubs for human trafficking in the USA.
Jessie was kept in Las Vegas for over 10 months, with just one trip home during that time. That ended with her telling us on Christmas Day 2005 that she had to go back to Las Vegas, which surprised us, since she had been fighting with her 'so-called' fiancé on the phone, the entire time she was back home. This is part of what proved to us the amount of brainwashing and threatening that happened to Jessie. After she disappeared we hired a private investigator who discovered some horrible things right away. Jessie has been beaten & hospitalized and forced to work for an escort agency & arrested for solicitation while she was in Las Vegas. We have had many people working Jessie's case, but we have not been able to find her.
I am attaching the press release from earlier this month. Please forward it to others – bands, managers, etc – that you think may be interested in helping. We appreciate anything that can be done to help us raise awareness to the missing.
Please do not hesitate to ask for more information on anything. Sincerely, Glendene Grant.
Will share with my musician friends.
Any responses yet Glendene?
Tell Jannel I'll find all the musicians she wants if she would come to Kansas City. I've been bugging her about this for years.
