Voice Platform and Support Network for Families of Missing and Victims of Crime
This is a plea I am making for you on behalf of Jeff , whose brother Joe Dunsavage, who disappeared in Honduras in May 2009. Joe went missing in May of 2009 on his boat near Roatan, off the coast of Honduras.
When Joe went missing, he left behind children who need financial support. Because of the Joe’s missing person status many of his assets were lost and the children cannot claim his life insurance policy.
Insurers won't consider a claim without a death certificate and courts won't give you a certificate without a finding of presumptive death.
While The State Department has the authority to do so they will not give the family a consular finding of presumptive death unless his family goes through the Honduran courts which are notoriously corrupt and the family is broke from funding the search effort for Joe.
Please help their family obtain a consular finding of presumptive death so Joe’s minor children can receive the life insurance benefits they desperately need. ALL IT TAKES IS AN EMAIL or a VERY SHORT PHONE CALL to Senator Frank Lautenberg. An example letter is below. Just cut and paste and sign your own name please. You may write your own if you wish. (You can read more about the efforts and over $100,000.00 dollars the family has paid out of their pockets to find their loving son, brother, and father at http://www.nj.com/news/index.ssf/2010/07/nj_family_struggles_with_c...)
Please call or EMAIL your LETTER: http://lautenberg.senate.gov/contact/index1.cfm Thank you very much for your assistance!

Dear Senator,
I'm writing with the request to ask you to please meet with the family of Joe Dunsavage. They need your help desperately to intervene with the State Department on their behalf to obtain a consular finding of presumptive death so Joe’s minor children can obtain the life insurance benefits they deserve.
Joe went missing in 2009, a Mortgage Broker, while on a fishing trip off the coast of Honduras. He also had a business in the Central American country, has been missing since he took off in a catamaran to go fishing Sunday around 11:30 a.m. Honduran time, two hours behind Eastern Daylight Time.
When Joe went missing, he left behind children who need financial support. Because of the Joe’s missing person status many of his assets were lost and the children cannot claim his life insurance policy.
Insurers won't consider a claim without a death certificate and courts won't give you a certificate without a finding of presumptive death. While The State Department has the authority to do so they will not give the family a consular finding of presumptive death unless we go through the Honduran courts which are notoriously corrupt and the family is broke from funding the search effort for Joe.
Please help their family obtain a consular finding of presumptive death so Joe’s minor children can receive the life insurance benefits they desperately need.
Respectfully,
SIGN YOUR NAME, PLEASE

Permalink Reply by Jeff Dunsavage on February 17, 2011 at 10:26pm Natalia - Many of our families are not from the U.S. I named it The Missing Americans Project because I originally believed we were dealing with primarily a U.S. issue. Something like half our families are non-U.S. This has been such an education.
Don't worry about "State" - it's not a required field.
