NamUs Team members will represent the following National Institute of Justice's (NIJ) partner agencies, organizations and constituencies:

• Clearinghouse Agent
• Forensic Specialist Expert
• Law Enforcement
• Medical Examiner/Coroner
• Victim Advocate

The victim advocate representative is a paid or volunteer member of at least one of the "recognized" not-for-profit state or national missing person's organizations (e.g., DOE Network, National Center for Missing Adults [NCMA], etc.). This individual has a proven track-record of professional conduct while working with the many "participants" in the investigation, location and identification of missing persons. In addition, this person shall understand the personal and professional diligences required, endure investigations of this type and complexity. He/She should be considered in-good-standing with their community and local law enforcement agency or agencies.

Greetings my friends from NamUs Academies. I wanted to have an area where the victim advocates from every state could come together. Here we can work together and consider ways to pull the state teams forward.

I have seen some of the state teams go fourth with great success. Others have stumbled a bit trying to get their bearings - or just stay connected.

We can communicate here and look at how each other are moving forward - and how we ourselves as advocates can help each other. The goal is a successful national effort.

Though each of you are part of a 5 person state team - you are all part of a much larger multi state advocate team. Todd Matthews

Be Responsible

You can be active for the cause of missing and unidentified persons in a number of ways. The most important is this: If you have information about a missing or unidentified person, immediately report the information to the local law enforcement agency.

Do not put yourself in a potentially dangerous situation. Investigation of missing and unidentified persons should be left to the proper authorities. Putting yourself in a potentially hazardous situation can complicate matters further.
