The National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs) is the first national repository for missing persons and unidentified decedent records.

Okay, I am strangely both really excited about, yet really frustrated by this...

Excited because...my word! It's so clear! Finally, our government is truly doing something for the families of the missing! They have answered the many fervent pleas and as a direct result NamUs has been created!

We don't even have to spend additional time on fundraising efforts for it! It is government funded! (thus the .gov in NamUs.gov)

So...how and why in the world doesn't EVERY SINGLE CREDIBLE MISSING PERSONS AGENCY AND RESOURCE not have NamUs clearly displayed and included on their site, materials, etc.????!!!

If we truly care about one another, if we truly do have these hearts that break for the family members of the missing, if we truly want to bring them home...then...we should be sharing NamUs with those of the missing in the highest decibel manner possible! RIGHT?!

Because...what really is the point in having a billion albeit wonderful missing persons agencies if they aren't able to work together for the greater good?

That's one thing I so adore about Peace4 the Missing...the ability its members to be "one, sole agenda-free" by not putting self-promotion in the forefront...but rather consistently and strongly uniting together, to truly care and most effectively work towards the common goal we all share...to bring home the Missing...

Do you know of any Missing Persons Agency/Resource that you could kindly remind to update its site/materials, etc. to include NamUs info?

Thank You, Peace4 Member, Patty, for this offer!

Sara I do agree with you about NamUs and getting agencies to work together.

I think many still do not understand NamUs and the importance of the database. Billy is in NamUs and the imformation entered was just recently used to illiminate the possiblility the remains that were found was not those of my son. This time it was his dental, next time they may need to use DNA.

I was just told only 15 cases are entered from Connecticut. we have 700 missing persons and a number of unidentified. There should be many more entries than what we currently have for the state of Connecticut.

Law enforcement need to be educated about NamUs and make entries since they are the ones who need to verify the entries before they are permanently entered on the database for others to see, if the families become involved and add information.

I know there are a number of LE who feel it is more paper work, but a human life is well worth the efforts.
Being repetative will probably be the way for NamUs to become successful. Once everyone including the agencies see how important the database is than I bet entries will be common and the agencies will display all the information. I would hope to think.

One baby step at a time or a glacier speed more like it.

Sara you are doing a great job along with many others, especially Todd Matthews , in a years time NamUs has grown, let it become the craze of the future. Lets all stick together and a difference will be made.
Always hope

I see you got to work with Donna Fontanna on the exclusion to that UID.

Patty Beeken helped me whan I was doing the beta trial for the pro-type for the current NamUs missing persons database. She would be of tremendous help to anyone needing help getting their case into NamUs.

Okay everyone the families are really getting confused. To me NamUs is the one stop shop for the families, for LE and for ME's.......I'm correct in that thinking right?

We all know there are orgnanizations and web sites out there that are listing our loved ones but NamUs is the database where all should be listed, correct?

Perhaps baby steps as this goes out to the media and to the public is in order. Step 1, Step 2 and make sure when a familly with a newly missing person can google and NamUs comes up first. In a perfect world LE will be telling the familes that they have their loved one listed with NamUs but until that happens how do the families know to go to NamUs so they can follow up if their LE has actually entered them?

At the very least for convicted felons. I know dental records do exist for inmates -but can they can acquired from privately operated prisons? Food for throught -

"Too bad dental x-rays aren't a standard booking feature when someone is arrested." That would be a great idea. Not only for LE to find the criminals; to know they are dead instead of continuing searching for them; but even if someone is a crimin...
