Comment by Jan Smolinski on January 30, 2013 at 7:33pm I know how hopeless it sounds when a child goes missing and it seems like no one cares. I have to offer some advice, when Billy went missing
8 1/2 years ago and we still face almost every single day. If your law enforcement want you to give up...go higher ...go to the chief ,,go to the state police, commissioner , media, do an FOI for the records of people interviewed regarding Jesse's disappearance, keep on knocking on doors. There are individuals who will see you knocking and help lead the way. Don't get discouraged keep Faith and Hope...if what you have done has failed try something completely different and see what is behind that door. God bless xxoo
Comment by Jesse 'Opie' Ross on January 30, 2013 at 7:06pm Over 6 years ago our son Jesse disppeared in Chicago. Police have no clues no leads and even today have put the case on the shelf. they won't let anyone else touch the case, but they won't actively work it either. We have asked that they go back and re-interview those who were there with Jesse, but they will not look for clues until they have more clues, catch 22 Recently they told us they think Jesse fell into the river and was washed to sea, saying we might as well give up. We have been led to believe that Jesse's school may have kept us from talking to students back in 2006, and that they were covering their behinds at the expense of our son. Also we have been told police interviews were sketchy at best and they will not share with us who they interviewed and who they did not. We actually have obtained more info than police because television people found people that were there that police sort of glossed over. We are currently at an impasse, no one cares, we are expected to write our son off. I read where John Walsh found out about his son's murderer 25 years after the fact when press got courts to open the case for public inspection. My wife and I are 64 we may not have 25 years to wait. Someone somewhere must care. Those who want so desperately to help can't and those who might be able to won't. Who can say what someone might know and not even realize they know it. New detective on the case has his 'drowned and washed away ' theory and isn't going to be much help. We are at the mercy of people who do not know the warm loving young man we have lost. We will never give up, but the strain is telling and we will not be pushed aside.

Comment by Jesse 'Opie' Ross on May 6, 2012 at 2:01pm Christy Hotchkiss So many questions we don't know the answer to, we were here in MO and there are others who probably know but just don't talk to us.
Comment by Jesse 'Opie' Ross on May 6, 2012 at 1:59pm We are thinking about attending a candle light vigil in Rockford IL May 25th, then on July 14th hope to be with the band at six flags over greater america north of chicago for a concert and awareness event.

Comment by Mary Ellen Hopkins on April 2, 2012 at 10:46pm I don't know how you do it.The book, the searching, setting up things to keep going all the time.I hope someday to pay it forward. I stood at a spot where a body was found yesterday. I knew the area wasn't right, but the sheer hope keeps me going. I've marveled at the people that search and befriend me. Y!ou are one of those people. Thank you
