I had a nice conversation with Chad the other day on the phone. His efforts are awesome, it is good to see how motivated he is. We are not only joining state to state efforts but national is the final goal. Two weeks ago my husband Bill and I met with Senator Dodd's office to see if he would jump on board with Senator Lieberman and Congressman Murphy.
If other Federal legislators across the country would all join together the final goal would be awesome.
Chad, your doing a great job! Keep on going.

CONNECTICTUT MISSING PERSONS Raised Bill -- HB 6563 Below, has already been through two committees and now pushing to go on the Floor

http://www.cga.ct.gov/2009/JFR/H/2009HB-06563-R00PS-JFR.htm - Testimonies regarding the bill -- Pros and Cons

Anyone interested to see how the legislative process works click on the links above. Bill 6563 Missing person legislation has passed two committees and now I need to lobby so it will make it to the floor of the house. There is opposition CT Republicans do not like the word MANDATE.
The only way this legislation will work is to mandate.

It was proven with the last amended Missing Persons bill that became law two years ago, with the suggestion of following proper protocol in police departments.

Out of 109 PD's in CT only 46 were in compliance.

This has become almost a full time job to lobby and get this on the floor. With perserverance, hard work and the Grace of God, Connecticut will one day join the three states currently having the law the way it was intended. New Jersey, Florida and Oregon.

Thank you for inviting me to join this legislation team. I work some with other types of legislative reform as I am able and this is the most important of them all.

It doesn't do any good to change laws unless you change peoples opinions.
Jan Smolinski Comment by Jan Smolinski on February 12, 2009 at 2:46pm
It takes perserverance when it comes to changing laws or making new ones. Never get disappointed there will always be some sort of opposition. That is what it is all about on Capitol Hill.
I always think of the sad cases all over the country and the crying out for some one to listen.
It took two years to get where the drafting into a bill is taking place.
The Legislators think most people give up with first opposition.
With the help of our good Lord it will take place.
Thank you for sending the letter and help pursue the efforts.
I spoke with Senator Lieberman's lawyer this afternoon they will be meeting next week with experts regarding the draft. One step at a time, this process is a lengthy one.

Always Hope,

I was disappointed to say the least for the response I got from Patty Murray who is a senator from my state. This is the note I got back from her today regarding this.

Dear Mrs. Johnson:

Thank you for contacting me regarding the value of DNA-based identity determination efforts. I appreciate having the benefit of your views on this matter.

The views of Washingtonians are very important to my work. I will keep your thoughts in mind, and I encourage you to stay in touch. Please do not hesitate to call on me whenever I may be of assistance.

Again, thank you for contacting me. I hope that you will continue to let me know about this and other matters of interest to you.

I hope all is well in Puyallup.

I received this reply today from Senator Leiberman's office. Even though I'm not a resident of CT, his office does get a briefing about what is coming through that affects the entire nation. That in itself is heartening. Keep the letters going!

Thank you for taking the time to contact me. I appreciate the opportunity to know your opinions on the pressing issues facing our nation. Regrettably, due to the huge volume of mail that I receive, I am only able to research and address comments sent to me from Connecticut residents. If you are not from Connecticut, you may want to consider sending a message to the Senators from your state of residence. You can do so by visiting http://www.senate.gov for a link to the websites of each member of the United State Senate. If you are currently residing out of state, but are still a Connecticut resident or have a connection to Connecticut, please be certain to use your Connecticut address or indicate your Connecticut connection in the first paragraph of your email.

I value having the benefit of your thoughtful concerns, since I do receive detailed weekly reports from my staff providing a sampling of comments from across the country on timely issues before Congress.

Thank you again for sharing your views and concerns with me. I hope you will continue to visit my website at http://lieberman.senate.gov for updated news about my work on behalf of Connecticut and the nation. Please contact me if you have any additional questions or comments about our work in Congress.

Sincerely,

Joseph I. Lieberman

UNITED STATES SENATOR

Angelbound, the only way to get your point acroos is to speak your opinion and it certainly was not ranting, your thoughts were well written and expressed an opinion that many wished they could say but either are afraid or lack the vocabulary to put the right words together. I agree with you 100%. Thank you for being candid.
I will have a letter by sometime tomorrow posted which will make it easier for others to get involved and submit to their legislator or Senator Lieberman's office in support of the bill which will be introduced into Congress.

Dear Anglebound...we know it was not ranting- they were your words of wisdom ! Im sure she knows that we all need to vent once in a while and then we ALL will do our part ! With that said, get writing your letters to your federal legislators people :} This is a national movement - I dont think one person can do this on their own - but then again, who knows !
