Has anyone ever been audited? It is such a pain! lol Well i am in the process and some of the things i am required to send is copy's of my childrens birth certificates to prove they are mine. Some other things are divorce decrees and copy of bills that i been paying for the year 2009 etc. (to prove im head of household) Anyways i was wondering if the non custodial parents who kidnap their children try to claim them on their tax return and if so could that be a way to possibly track them down?
I know that i have heard of stories where children were abducted by a non custodial parent and they were forced to change their name, (to the public anyway) and i know they moved alot. But i wonder if there is anyway the irs could help track an abductor/non custodial parent? What do you think?
P.S. If you think about it, it does cost money to be on the run.

The IRS, the courts, lawyers, creditors .... don't acknowledge the word "missing." There is no Unknown for them. You would have to contact the IRS and ask them what their procedure is for checking every child against a missing person report. With an adult missing I know they could care less......they wiped out my joint bank account whenever they felt like it....didn't care if my husband was dead or alive just so they knew what bank account to wipe out.
I'm not sure what you meant by your statement: "Just like the reason for NameUs is to put all information into one data base. Does that make sense?"
I just hope I read that wrong. Not sure why you would bring up NamUs in a conversation about the IRS. But to answer you in the way it sounds like you are asking YES it does make PERFECT sense to have all information on the Missing and Unidentifieds in one repository. The missing don't exist to be the sleuthers source of joy. I logged over 4,000 computer hours having to search coroners, ME and law enforcement sites. I looked at every dead body online .... no family member should ever have to do that. With NamUs the families can go to one site, not 1,000's to research...that makes SENSE. They are looking for their loved ones not giving some bored stranger a chance to make a match and outpost their fellow posters on the crime/hate boards.
I so hope I read your statement and question wrong.

Comment by Christy Hotchkiss on December 25, 2010 at 8:10am GREAT THOUGHTS! YES I'll bet in many cases the non-custodial parent(s) definitely believe it's OK or justified to declare their addition another way to scam or get these wonderful allowances! The only reality is the extent of the system and of course the overburdened resources ..BUT truthfully the system can be pretty anal about tracking us down and our great resources so.....YES I believe this is another great avenue/link that should be utilized and is under used!!! Every link can be a stepping stone to getting the truth and the answers everyone deserves! My sincerest wishes to you and yours for a meaninful, strength filled Holiday season!

Comment by Maureen Reintjes-Peace4 Admin on December 22, 2010 at 2:07pm They probably don't file their taxes. My husband was missing for 4 years and never filed a tax return....but hey there's nothing illegal about going missing (I say in a sarcastic tone!).
I would assume it would take a court order/discovery to determine if they have filed or not.
