Peace4 Member Missey Smith and Karla O'Malley Interviewed to "'Mean Posts Illegal."
Missey's daughter, Kelsey, was missing found murdered and now there are YouTube Memorial videos put up by caring people where horrible, nasty, vile comments have been placed. Missey can't remove them because she is not the one who posted the videos. YouTube has done nothing about it.
Karla came upon a traffic accident where a young man lay dying. She stopped to help. Later she found his memorial FB page and saw horrible comments. Karla is working on Travis' Law.

I do have one comment to make: Yes, we have all seen horrible things said on missing person blogs, sites, FB pages, etc., but those are said by people who are dense and don't seem to grasp that the families are real live people with feelings. But then there are the other comments that are just totally vile and done in a predatory fashion. There is no reason to call a murdered young woman who in life was kind to everyone and who has parents that did everything right .... to call her a whore among other things is what needs to be stopped. These aren't people with opinions these are predators, bullies, assholes.
Comment by Tony Romeyn on March 2, 2011 at 9:05pm Most of the time I totally ignore when people say things that they know nothing or little about, as I see many times in letters to editors and more.
But then when it is someone you love then the comments can be biting, so unfairly said and it hurts.
With the Internet has come, anyone can say anything relatively without any consequences.
It's a shame, BUT TO ALL OF YOU WHO DO CAUSE PEOPLE INORMOUS PAIN WITH YOUR WORDS, remember ONE DAY you are going to have to answer for every word said.

Comment by Angela Montgomery on March 1, 2011 at 1:45pm I am very aware of this, and have just accepted it as a 'fact' of the digital age. Can something be done about it? I don't know. What I have found is diligent tracking of public pages, whether they are FB or youtube or any other public site, are the responsibility of the author/originator to protect the page. 'Trolls' are out there, and for whatever they get out of it, they continue to post mean and inflammatory things. Their whole intent is to 'get a rise' out of the reader...the best and only response is no response.
Good luck, Karla.
