Why arent there any sites specifically for Missing people considered to be non missing by Law Enforcemnt

Today I was speaking to a friend on the phone about a specific Missing persons case, and I had been thinking about this for such a long time now. As we were talking I said why dont we have a place out there for Missing persons cases that the police wouldnt accept as being a missing person for whatever reason they might have.

I know of several people who have told me they have a missing person but that the police said they had every right to be missing and therefore they could take a report but could not file a case and if they heard anything they would let them know...sweep....sweep...sweep right under the table, now 22 years later the person is still not found and the parents have died without ever knowing where there child was or what ever happened to them.

I had a police officer this morning ask me if she was a missing person or not and if a report had ever been filed....I said to him if it was back in 1988 from your area why are you asking me? I can not answer that for you. I know there was some sort of missing persons report filed but I dont know if they ever made it into a case.

Thinking more of course doing more research I found out that yes the case had been reported and that some case had been opened but that there is no info on it anywhere for me to get to it.

Why dont we have a place especially for cases that the police would not consider to be valid missing person cases due to circumstances but yet there has been no sign or activity from the person missing....just my thoughts and ramblings.

It's been three years since you wrote this Gwen, and I still can't get anyone to listen to me. I have spoken with various police agencies (Detroit, Lincoln Park, and State) and still nothing. In the last year I've had two different police officers say they will help me get Phyllis' case number, but, still, nothing. I know the probability of Phyllis being dead is very high, but, she's still missing, she's still someone's daughter and sister. Sadly, her parents have passed away.

Thank you that is so important. Especially in Cindy Lee Mellin. Her case is so old and so cold.
Without Family or help from Law Enforcement of which we seem not to have, it appears Cindy Lee Mellin will never get the helps she so deserved.
thanks
great article.
these photos these names should go on on each and every day on a site.

thanks

I think in many cases, these missing people are not "their people",so they can't possibly understand. I think a lot of them are lazy and inept.

Connie I don't know if anyone has contacted you directly but there are steps you can take. The key is persistence. There are organizations set up to help you. You'll find the group of people here are very knowledgeable. If you haven't found the right person to work with call me and I'll be happy to give you some references. May Gina find her sister soon.

And, most organizations will not list the missing solely with a report #. A report # is only LEs internal number.

The law I propose would solve all of this: www.reintjes.us And, Stephanie your story on what you went through with your sister should be told all over the world. In these past almost 5 years I've talked with families of missing teenage/adults all over the world and found out that most experienced the same problems that I faced and that so many of the families of the missing face. All these stories need to be shouted out to the public.

I'm working with Gina Miller to find her sister, Rachel Battancourt who went missing in 1965 at the age of 2. When we contacted the San Antonio police department this year, the officer told me that a report was never filed. What she should have said was "we didn't think it was important enough to keep on record." When I asked about making a report now, she said that there wasn't enough information to go on! HUH!?!?!? Guess the SA police department only takes cases it can solve.

I am so sorry Stephanie that your family has had to suffer through this tragedy. I call it a tragedy not only because you lost your loved one, but that you could not get someone to listen to you when you tried to report her as missing. This is an ogoing thing I keep hearing about and especially for older cases. They used to have that mentality of: If they are grown then they can come and go as they please, or if someone lived a lifestyle that would make them be more vulnerable to this type of behavior then they didnt bother with filing a report. It is sad that you had to find your sister through NamUs but thank god for it or we may not have been able to get your sisters information to you. These sights are important and I believe there needs to be something for those who are trying to do the work by themselves after a loved one has been gone for a very long time. This is something truely worth thinking about and taking serious. I am so very thankful Stephanie that you found us here. Hugs.
